CALIFORNIA CATS
Winston - San Diego, CA 1/1/21
Meet Winston! He is a 2 yr old, 11 lb, neutered male cat.
Winston is so handsome! He is a very friendly boy and enjoys getting attention and love. Isn't he such a chonk?
Winston is FIV positive. Most cats with FIV don't experience any significant FIV-health-related issues once they are fixed and living inside. The virus can affect their immune systems and make them more susceptible to kitty colds, and they are also prone to having dental issues, but most live long, relatively healthy lives. They don't need any special care or medication, just an indoor lifestyle and regular check-ups with a veterinarian. The thinking has also changed on how easily the virus can be transmitted to other cats -- it's primarily transmitted by deep bite wounds, so it's now believed that non-aggressive FIV+ cats can safely live with non-FIV cats. Regular indoor-kitty wrestling and rough-housing that doesn't result in bites that break the skin will not transmit the virus.
so while Winston may need more care with infections, he is otherwise healthy and can live with other cats after a careful introduction. He does have a scar on his face from his days as a tomcat but it is healing and he has been very gentle with other cats, so we think he will do fine with kitty friends. His adoption fee is $60 and you are required to meet him to be sure he is a great fit.
Winston is in the care of Martin's Home, Inc and they can be reached by email to: jmclaug@me.com or by phone: (760)537-0068. His rescue would like him to stay relatively local - get in touch with them if you are interested!!
Jonas - San Jose, CA 1/2/21
Meet Jonas! He is a 5 yr old, 8 lb, neutered male tabby cat.
Jonas is a sweet adult cat seeking a fospice home. The Dancing Cat is searching for a fospice (foster + hospice) home for this very special cat. Jonas enjoys cuddling for hours on end and long walks to his food bowl. It may take Jonas a day or two to truly warm up to his human, but once he does, he will not leave their side.
He enjoys being no further than a few feet from his human at all times, often following them throughout the house. He's your very own little guardian angel! Jonas is very caring and protective of his humans. If they decide to sleep in on a weekend, Jonas may wake them up to check that they’re okay. If they work for too long, Jonas may come get them and guide them to the couch.
Jonas is not very playful, and toys don’t generally hold his attention for very long. If you are open to being the forever this boy deserves for as long as he has, please apply. Jonas has an inoperable tumor in his abdomen and his time here may be weeks, months or maybe even a year. He eats a prescription diet, is on prednisolone to slow the progression of the growth, and is very easy to care for. Because we will support an adopter by financing veterinary care, Jonas must be adopted within 50 miles of San Jose, CA. Please fill out our online adoption application and we'll set you up to meet him as soon as possible. www.thedancingcat.org/adopt
Max - Davis, CA 1/9/21
Meet Max! He is a 6 month old, 4.5 lb, neutered male tabby cat.
Max, aka Maximilian (which literally means the greatest), was originally found by a good samaritan and turned in to the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital on Death's door. During hospitalization, he was diagnosed with a tail pull injury causing a spinal fracture, and we worried he would never walk again. However, nothing truly stops Miracle Max and he has now regained function in his legs and is moving independently! He uses his regained mobility to get up on your lap for quality cuddles/conversations and to chase around his foster's resident cats and dogs. Max is the best!
He is a little bit of a slowpoke still though, so if he goes to live with a dog, it needs to be a cat-savvy, sweet, and patient dog because Max would be a sitting duck. He's great with other cats! At this time Max still has some residual challenges with bladder and bowel movements due to his spinal fracture but has continuously improved in the 10 weeks since his injury! He currently wears a diaper and may need his bladder expressed (this is EASY!), but enjoys playing in his litterbox and is becoming increasingly more successful with self-expression. His tail was amputated because he was unable to feel or use it, so he has the cutest little nub, almost like a Manx kitty tail!
Max is available within ~100 miles of his rescue, the Orphan Kitten Project, for adoption. That said, if you're outside that area but think he would be a perfect fit, still reach out to chat! His rescue can assist with transportation in the Northern California and Bay area if student volunteers are available. For additional transport accommodations or concerns please contact the adoptions team to see how theycan help! Chai - Davis, CA ADOPTED!!
Meet Chai! He is an 8 month old (on 1/10/21), 6.5 lb, neutered male tabby cat.
Chai is a total sweetheart with a lot of spunk who has been searching for his forever home since September 2020. He was brought to the Orphan Kitten Project by a good samaritan this past summer due to a neurological issue resulting in hind limb paralysis.
Chai currently has no functioning use of his hind legs or tail but it doesn’t stop him from getting around! He scoots around on his front limbs to explore new places in the house and loves to play with his fluffy snake-like tail or feather toys. Chai is also a wonderful snuggle buddy and thoroughly enjoys face scratches during nap time. Due to his neurological symptoms, Chai will need his bladder expressed three times daily but is patient and used to the routine. This isn't hard and we will teach anyone how to do it!
At this time, we have been unable to test his appreciation for dogs but he does well with other cats. We think he will thrive in a home with lots of attention, love, and support. Chai is available within ~100 miles of his rescue, the Orphan Kitten Project, for adoption. That said, if you're outside that area but think he would be a perfect fit, still reach out to chat! His rescue can assist with transportation in the Northern California and Bay area if student volunteers are available. Allistaire and Percy - Davis, CA 1/12/21
Meet Allistaire and Percy! These brothers are 7 months old (born around 5/25/20), 5.5 lb, neutered male cats. Allistaire is the darker tabby and Percy is the piebald tabby.
Allistaire and Percy are the cutest bonded pair! Allistaire is an adorable one-eyed kitten that absolutely loves to cuddle. When he's not snuggled on your lap or in your arms, he is probably playing on his scratch post or wrestling with his brother, Percy. Allistaire has a very mild case of mitral valve insufficiency (slightly leaky heart valve) and lives on altenolol at ~$90/month. Percy is a playful kitten that spends most of his day chasing after toys or wrestling with his brother, Allistaire. While he's not normally as cuddly as Allistaire, Percy will climb to your chest if you're laying down and snuggle up in your warmth. He loves to play with anything, so no need to buy special toys for this little friend! The two of them love chasing each other and sprinting to different corners of the house.
These two adorables are self-entertaining, so if you're a busy human, no worries!! They will play with each other until you have time to cuddle and play! No overly needy boys here.
Allistaire and Percy are available within ~100 miles of their rescue, the Orphan Kitten Project, for adoption. That said, if you're outside that area but think they would be a perfect fit, still reach out to chat! The rescue can assist with transportation in the Northern California and Bay area if student volunteers are available. Snowie - Sacramento, CA 2/22/21
Meet Snowie! She is a 10 yr old, 9 lb, female spayed, Siamese mix.
Snowie was born on July 14, 2010 with a crooked short tail. Her mom was feral and she abandoned Snowie and her brother when they were around 8 weeks old. They were taken in and raised indoors by a loving family until circumstances changed and they were surrendered to 2nd Chance Rescue Kitties.
What we know about Snowie - she had her teeth removed years ago due to dental disease and is doing great! We found out that she is diabetic in August 2020 and started insulin treatment. She needs it twice a day and is very easy to inject. We just put some treats in front of her and while she is munching, give her the shot. She doesn't put up any resistance or fuss, she is SUCH a good girl!
Snowie is a serious task master, keeping us on track for her morning medication, snack time, evening medication, and bedtime snack. She is a sweet and spunky senior. She likes her small stuffed toys and will carry them in her mouth while howling to show you what a great hunter she is to have captured these pesky toys. She wants to be a lap cat but won't jump in your lap. She loves to sit next to people and she may meow at you to put her in your lap.
She adores being brushed and loves wet food. She needs her own space to eat because she will leave if other cats come into her space while eating. She will let you know when things aren't up to her standards with a few stern meows. Usually a few treats or kisses on her head will remedy the problem. She is indoor only and likes the company of other cats who aren't too clingy.
Snowie's rescue would like her to stay within approximately 100 miles of the rescue. The rescue can help with transport within the Sacramento/Northern California area. If you would like to learn more about her, please email: 2ndchancerescuekitties@gmail.com
